Am Sonntag den 27. Oktober fand im Bundesland Thüringen die Landtagswahl statt. Die Wahlbeteiligung der Thüringer war dieses Jahr deutlich höher als in der vergangenen Landtagswahl 2014- sie stieg von 52,7% auf 64,9%. Ministerpräsident Bodo Ramelow mit seiner regierenden Partei Die Linke sowie die rechtsnationale Partei AFD (Alternative für Deutschland) gehen als Gewinner der Wahl hervor; die AFD konnte mit über 12% mehr Stimmen punkten als in 2014, während die Linke mit einem Gewinn von 2,8% und 31% der Stimmen erstmals die stärkste Kraft im Landtag darstellt. Da die bisherige rot-rot-grün Regierung (Linke, SPD, Grüne) nun keine Koalition mehr bilden kann, muss eine neue Regierungsmehrheit gefunden werden. Möglich wäre zum Beispiel ein Zusammenschluss aus Linken und CDU, sowie ein Bündnis aus der Linken, SPD, FDP und Grünen. Eine Koalition mit der AFD wird von allen Parteien ausgeschlossen.

On Sunday the 27th October, the Thuringian state elections took place. Compared to the last election in 2014, the voter turnout was much higher with 64,9% instead of 52,7% in 2014. The Left became the strongest party with 31%, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Green Party all lost a lot of their votes. The right wing party Alternative for Germany made huge gains of 12% and is thus the second strongest party in the Thuringian parliament. Since the old government doesn’t have a majority anymore, the Left Party with minister-president Bodo Ramelow now needs to form a new coalition. All parties have declined to form a coalition with the AFD.
