What it is about: Mike doesn’t get why people think he’s boring. Sure, he doesn’t have many friends. (OK, zero friends.) And everyone laughs at him when he reads his essays out loud in class. And he’s never invited to parties.

But one day Tschick, the odd new boy at school, shows up at Mike’s house out of the blue. He dares him to go on a road trip with him. No parents, no map, no destination. Will they get hopelessly lost in the middle of nowhere? Probably. Will they meet crazy people and get into serious trouble? Definitely. But will they ever be called boring again?

Obwohl Wolfgang Herrndorfs Tschick eigentlich ein Jugendroman ist, ist es ein Buch, das genauso gut für Erwachsene geeignet ist. Die Thematik des Erwachsenwerdens ist auf eine humorvolle, aber im Hintergrund trotzdem ernste Art und Weise dargestellt, denn viele Punkte die als witzig beschrieben sind, wie z.B. der Alkoholsucht von Maiks Mutter oder der Affäre seines Vaters, sind es eigentlich gar nicht und regen so zum Nachdenken an.

Herrndorf legt den Protagonisten Maik und Tschick den Sprachstil eines 14-jährigen in den Mund. So wirken vor allem die Dialoge zwischen den beiden sehr authentisch. Der Roadtrip der beiden ist einfach nur spontan und unüberlegt und so für die beiden eine Möglichkeit dem nicht so leichten Alltag zu entfliehen und viele neue Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

Beim Lesen von Tschick war ich vor allem beeindruckt von Herrndorfs Sprache und davon, wie die beiden Protagonisten dargestellt sind. Die Story ist nicht an den Haaren herbeigezogen, sondern wirkt vollkommen realistisch und ist dabei trotz jeder Tragik durchgängig unterhaltsam. Tschick ist ein Buch, das, trotz der Thematik des Erwachsenwerdens, auch von schon Erwachsenen gelesen werden sollte!
